The Founder

Wheelhaus Studio was founded by Alexander Liston, an artist whose path was shaped by an early and diverse worldview. Growing up, his parents' life and work brought him to different parts of the world, exposing him to diverse cultures, art, and some of the world's wonders. These experiences sparked a lifelong passion for the creative process and eventually led him to pursue a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts (BFA) at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
Through his journey in sculpture, painting, and drawing, Alexander eventually found his home at the wheel. For him, the joy of pottery is found in the balance between the quiet mastery of the craft and the vibrant energy of sharing it with others. He views teaching as an integral part of his own creative process. It’s a way to inspire and guide students while continuing to refine his own skills and push the boundaries of the medium.
Today, he leads the studio with the belief that art is most powerful when it is accessible. Whether he is refining a new series of handcrafted vessels or guiding a beginner through their first cylinder, his focus remains the same: cultivating a space where community is central and both artist and student can grow together.
